Our Sages teach us that there are three partners in the creation of a human being, the father, the mother and G-d. The parents are represented at the bottom right by the two outstretched hands. The third, incorporeal, partner is symbolized by the ray of light.
The two tiny cells in the vortex at the center evoke the initial division of cells at the conception of a new life. Our sacred writings describe life in this world as a corridor leading to eternal life in the next world. Thus, in this painting, the whole life cycle is portrayed within a symbolic womb.
As the baby enters this world he is crying but when one reaches the end of a life filled with purpose and mitzvot, the expression is one of fulfillment and contentment.
